Originally released in 1968 to accompany Dale Davis’ surf film The Golden Breed, this soundtrack arrived during a strange transitional moment in surf culture. While the film beautifully documented the golden era of longboarding across Hawaii and California, the surf world was rapidly shifting toward shortboards, causing both the movie and its soundtrack to quietly disappear despite their incredible quality.

Over time, however, The Golden Breed soundtrack became legendary among collectors. And for good reason. Scored by Mike Curb, Jerry Styner, and Harley Hatcher, the record blends surf instrumentals, lush cinematic arrangements, Tijuana Brass-inspired textures, and reverb-soaked guitar work into one of the most unique surf-related recordings of the era.
