Description

A midnight transmission from the California undercurrent.

The Undertows started in 2013 and remained a local garage band for years, until they decided it was time to give this music a chance to be heard by the world and not just Southern California locals. Originally recorded in 2020 during the Flying Fish sessions for The Undertows’ self-titled (and long overdue) debut LP, The Love Witch finally gets the standalone release it deserves on a black heart-shaped flexi disc. Long requested by fans and perfectly suited for the format, this instrumental creeper blends shadowy surf guitar, hypnotic synth atmosphere, and vintage horror energy into one late-night soundtrack.

The track channels the spirit of cult monster movies, noir mysticism, and dimly lit tiki lounges after closing time. Heavy spring reverb, eerie melodies, and slow-burning tension make this feel less like a traditional surf single and more like something discovered buried in the back of an old occult record shop.

Pressed as a black heart-shaped flexi, the release leans fully into the cinematic vibe. The artwork pulls from classic horror poster aesthetics with glowing crystal balls, electric storms, and supernatural imagery that feels right at home beside old creature-feature paperbacks and midnight movies.

Lightweight and flexible by design, this is a true throwback flexi pressing. Equal parts collectible piece and playable artifact, it captures the strange fun and visual flair that has always lived on the edges of surf and instrumental culture.

Why We Carry It

Because this is exactly the kind of weird, stylish release that keeps underground instrumental music exciting.

It feels authentic to the world The Undertows come from. Dark coastal nights, horror soundtracks, vintage vinyl oddities, and California surf culture all colliding together in one release. The format makes it instantly memorable, but the track itself has already quietly become a cult classic among fans, just like the cult film inspiration behind the song’s title.

A proper cult piece.

For fans of:

The Undertows, Messer Chups, The Cramps, The cult classic The Love Witch, horror surf, haunted exotica, cult cinema soundtracks, flexi discs, vintage monster culture, noir instrumentals, collectible vinyl oddities
